Horseback riding
Touring the landscape on horseback gives you an incredible sense of freedom. There are marked equestrian trails around the entire Veluwe. Trotting or galloping across the ancient deciduous forests, through the heath and across old sandy roads creates is incredibly relaxing.
The Veluwe Trail
The Veluwe Trail runs from Apeldoorn and Epe to Vierhouten, Ermelo, Garderen and Kootwijk. The route continues on through Otterlo, Ede, Arnhem and Hoenderlo, and back to Apeldoorn. Various different day trips of about 30 kilometres have been mapped out along the through route.
Day trips
One possibility is to ride through the forest and heath area around Epe and Heerde, or spend a day exploring the varied countryside around Vierhouten and Ermelo. Other fantastic day trips feature the Hulshorsterzand shifting sands, and the Hoge Veluwe national park. The area around Ede offers vast heath and of course there are plenty of possibilities in the Veluwezoom, the Posbank and around Hoenderloo.Trail guide
There is a trail guide for the Veluwe Trail. The guide contains descriptions of the through route and the day trips. There are also tips on accommodation and restaurants on the trail. You use the guide to outline your trip in advance, and then once you are on the trail you can follow the signs along the route. The trail guide is available from the Veluwe VVV tourist offices.Covered wagon tours of the Veluwe
