Walking along running water in the Veluwe
The Veluwe springs and streams are a unique system of waterways in Europe. This is practically the only place featuring such a variety of streams and springs in such a relatively small area. This water system has a wide range of flora and fauna, and is also quite interesting from a cultural historical perspective, too.

In the olden days, paper mills, laundries and water mills were built along the streams and created economic opportunities in what was a rather poor area at the time. Not everyone was poor though; there are also country estates and castles nearby.

The Veluwe Water Board and the Foundation for the Preservation of the Veluwe’s Springs and Brooks, together with the Gelders Overijssels Tourist Office, have developed a number of walking routes along these streams and compiled them in the booklets ‘Walking along running water in the Veluwe' - part 1 - from Hattem to Apeldoorn. and 'Walking along running water in the Veluwe' - part 2 – between Apeldoorn and Arnhem.

The booklets serves both to link nature and culture, and offers the opportunity to experience this area on foot. In addition to the eight detailed route descriptions there is a wealth of information about cultural history, flora and fauna, and practical information. Routes can be joined together, as well as shortened, which ensures that there is a route for everyone. The books are also beautifully illustrated. The walking routes range from 3 to 11 kilometres.

Both publications cost € 9.95 and are available from the Veluwe VVV tourist offices and various bookshops.
